Our Huia trinket box has been delicately hand thrown and carved. The huia is often regarded in Māori tradition as a spiritually significant bird symbolising prestige, leadership, sacredness, and a deep connection to ancestry. Its distinctive tail feathers were treasured and worn by people of high status, reflecting mana (authority and spiritual power). Because the huia is now extinct, it is also seen as a poignant symbol of remembrance, guardianship of nature, and the importance of protecting what is precious before it is lost.
These little lidded vessels are sealed on the inside to protect your precious pieces or even to be used in the kitchen to hold the likes of salt. Please bear in mind each precious vessel is individually crafted so no two will be the same and may vary slightly from the image.
